Theresa Alexander Inman is an author writing for an audience of educators and parents, people who pick up a book expecting to be guided, not lectured. The cover needed to signal credibility without feeling cold, and warmth without looking self-published.
The Challenge
Book cover design is deceptively hard. It has to work at thumbnail size on Amazon and full size in a bookstore. It has to communicate genre, tone, and audience in under three seconds. And for a first-time author, it's often the only thing standing between "this looks worth reading" and a scroll-past.
Theresa had a clear sense of her reader (professionals who care deeply about the children in their lives) but needed a designer who could translate that into something that competed with traditionally published titles.
What We Built
Cover Concept
We explored directions before landing on a concept that balanced warmth and authority. The final design uses clean, confident typography paired with a visual element that speaks directly to the subject matter without being literal about it.
The colour palette was chosen to feel welcoming on a shelf dominated by either all-white clinical covers or oversaturated stock-photo designs, a deliberate middle ground that makes the book stand out by being considered.
Typography & Layout
Every type decision was made with legibility at scale in mind. The title reads clearly at thumbnail. The author name is given proper weight, not an afterthought, which matters for building an author brand across future books.
Print-Ready Delivery
Files were delivered print-ready with full bleed, spine calculations, and back cover layout included: everything the printer needed, nothing for Theresa to figure out on her own.
The Result
A cover that looks like it belongs in the same category as the books it's sitting next to, which, for a debut author, is exactly the goal. Theresa launched with confidence knowing her first impression was working for her before a single page was read.
